IBM Thinkpad has 2 keys obviously pushed to design by marketroids back in 90-s then you were able to sell anything remotely connected to Internet. Namely browser back and forward keys. Very useless, very error prone keys, fortunately there is option to switch them off so they do nothing.
At the same time Thinkpad lacks Windows key. Quite understandable as IBM can not support yet another proprietary extension from Microsoft. Also in every few thousand Thinkpad sold there is few with non-Microsoft OS, so why insult these users with Windows key.
Because of these smart decisions there are millions of Thinkpad Windows users out there without option to have comfortable shortkut keys. Pretty neat, isn’t it?
But don’t be as stupid as I were postponing digging for this topic for more than year. Solution is pretty straightforward. In Windows you can actually map scan codes. If you are lazy enough not to edit registry then just download SharpKeys and map your Web: Back to Special: Left Windows and Web: Forward to Special: Right Windows (or Special: Application). And you are done. Now you still have your option to lock console with one keyboard shortcut.
